Santa Rosa, CA (December 05, 2024) – A bicyclist was seriously injured Wednesday morning after being struck by a blue Chevy Astro van near Guerneville Rd and Herbert St in Santa Rosa. The incident occurred at approximately 7:35 a.m. when the van was traveling westbound in the number two lane with a green light. The bicyclist, heading east, reportedly entered the roadway into oncoming traffic. Despite the driver’s attempt to stop, the collision could not be avoided.
Santa Rosa Police and fire personnel quickly responded to the scene, finding the injured bicyclist lying in the road. Emergency responders provided initial care before transporting him to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Fortunately, he was breathing at the time of his transport, but the extent of his injuries is severe.
Preliminary investigations suggest that neither speed nor driver impairment contributed to the accident. However, the reason the bicyclist entered the westbound lanes remains under investigation. Authorities are working to determine whether the bicyclist was distracted or if other factors played a role in the incident.
Our thoughts are with the injured individual, and we wish for a speedy recovery.
