Sandgate, VT (January 1, 2025) – The Vermont State Police are investigating a devastating house fire that claimed the lives of two individuals and injured two others on Wednesday morning. The fire broke out around 11:30 a.m. at a residence on Chunks Brook Rd in the Bennington County town of Sandgate.
Multiple fire departments from Vermont and New York responded to the scene, working together to bring the blaze under control. Tragically, two individuals were found deceased at the scene. Their bodies have been transported to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for autopsies, which are expected to provide further details regarding the cause and manner of their deaths.
Injuries and Investigation
Two survivors were transported to hospitals in New York for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed. Members of the Vermont Department of Public Safety Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit, along with detectives from the Vermont State Police Criminal Division, are continuing to examine the origin and cause of the fire.
