San Diego, CA (November 13, 2024) – A two-vehicle collision near the southbound State Route 163 in the Miramar area tragically resulted in the death of a 66-year-old woman on Monday night. The crash occurred at the intersection of Kearny Villa Road and the northbound SR-163 off-ramp.

According to police, the 66-year-old woman was driving a Toyota Highlander and making a left turn onto Kearny Villa Road when her vehicle was broadsided by a Ford F-450 truck. The truck, driven by a 49-year-old woman, reportedly ran a red light before colliding with the Toyota Highlander.

The 66-year-old was transported to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries shortly after. Police confirmed that DUI was not a factor in the crash.

The incident prompted the closure of southbound SR-163 north of the Kearny Villa Road on-ramp. Caltrans San Diego announced that the roadway reopened shortly before 11:00 PM.

Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the victim during this difficult time.

Intersection Accidents in California

Intersections are high-risk areas for traffic collisions, often involving factors like red-light violations, distractions, or misjudged turns. Broadside collisions, such as the one at Kearny Villa Road and the SR-163 off-ramp, are especially dangerous due to the side impact’s potential for severe injuries or fatalities.

Victims and their families may face overwhelming challenges, including emotional loss and financial burdens from medical expenses and funeral costs. Understanding available resources and legal options is crucial to finding justice and support during such tragic times.
