San Bernardino County, CA (February 24, 2025) – A motorcyclist sustained significant injuries and was airlifted to the hospital following a collision on Interstate 15 Sunday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash occurred at approximately 3:51 p.m. on February 23 in the southbound lanes of I-15 near the Field Road exit. Reports indicate that the motorcycle and a white Toyota Tacoma pickup truck collided while both were traveling southbound. The impact ejected the rider from the motorcycle, leaving them lying on the roadway.
San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the scene and determined that the severity of the rider’s injuries required an airlift for emergency medical treatment. Mercy Air #66 transported the victim to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for further care. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured, and no additional injuries were reported.
According to witnesses cited in the CHP traffic log, a group of motorcyclists had been speeding and lane-splitting before the crash. Authorities are investigating whether these factors contributed to the accident.
Our thoughts are with the injured rider, and we hope for a full recovery.
Motorcycle Accidents in California
California, with its high volume of motorcycle traffic, sees a significant number of motorcycle-related accidents each year. Highway crashes, particularly those involving motorcycles, can result in severe injuries due to the lack of physical protection for riders.
Lane-splitting, which is legal in California, can be risky when done at high speeds or in congested traffic. Motorcycles are often difficult for drivers to see, increasing the chances of collisions when vehicles change lanes unexpectedly. Other contributing factors to motorcycle crashes include speeding, driver inattention, and roadway conditions.
Motorcycle accident victims may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages. However, determining liability in these cases can be complex, especially when multiple vehicles are involved. Seeking legal assistance can help victims understand their rights and options.
