San Antonio, TX (January 26, 2025) – A tragic wrong-way crash early Sunday morning claimed the lives of two drivers on the west side of San Antonio. Police were called to the scene on Highway 90 near Southwest Loop 410 at approximately 5 a.m. following reports of a wrong-way driver and a subsequent major crash.
Upon arriving, officers discovered that a black pickup truck had collided head-on with a gray SUV. Both drivers, one believed to be in his early 30s and the other in his early 40s, were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither of the victims has been identified at this time.
According to witnesses, the driver of the black pickup truck was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Highway 90 when the collision occurred. The crash forced the closure of the highway for several hours as authorities worked to clear the wreckage and tow the vehicles from the scene.
It is not yet known if alcohol played a role in this devastating accident. Law enforcement officials have stated that the investigation remains ongoing.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased individuals.
Wrong-Way Crashes in Texas
Wrong-way crashes are among the most dangerous types of accidents and frequently result in fatalities or severe injuries. In Texas, wrong-way collisions often occur at night and are commonly associated with impaired driving, though other factors, such as confusion about road signage or medical emergencies, can also contribute.
When a wrong-way accident occurs, determining liability can be complex, particularly if the driver at fault has passed away. Families of victims may face significant challenges in seeking justice and compensation for their losses. Texas law allows victims’ families to pursue wrongful death claims, which may include compensation for funeral costs, medical expenses, and emotional distress.
To prevent wrong-way accidents, measures such as improved signage, road design changes, and public awareness campaigns have been implemented in many areas. However, drivers should remain vigilant and report wrong-way drivers to authorities whenever possible to help prevent tragedies like this.
If you or a loved one has been affected by a wrong-way crash, seeking legal advice and support can help ensure your rights are protected during a challenging time.
