San Antonio, TX (January 1, 2025) – A devastating fire early Wednesday morning destroyed two homes on Hidden Rock near Culebra Rd on the city’s West Side. The blaze began around 12:30 a.m., quickly engulfing both houses in flames.

Firefighters arrived to find both homes fully engulfed. A total of 12 residents, six from each house, were present at the time of the fire. One man sustained burns to his forehead and the palms of his hands and was treated for his injuries. Miraculously, no other injuries were reported.

Both homes were declared a total loss. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Our thoughts are with the affected families during this difficult time, and we hope for a swift recovery for the injured man.

Residential Fires in Texas

Fires like the one on Hidden Rock highlight the devastating impact residential fires can have on families and communities. In Texas, residential fires are often caused by electrical issues, unattended cooking, or malfunctioning appliances. Such incidents can lead to catastrophic losses of property and, in severe cases, injuries or fatalities.

To reduce the risk of residential fires, residents are urged to ensure their homes have functioning smoke detectors, practice fire safety habits, and have an emergency evacuation plan in place. Regular inspections of electrical systems and appliances can also help prevent potential hazards.

For families displaced by fires, recovery can involve significant emotional and financial challenges. Local support organizations and resources can provide assistance with temporary housing, repairs, and other needs.
