San Antonio, TX (March 8, 2025) – A fatal crash near Our Lady of the Lake University early Saturday morning left one man dead, while one driver was arrested and another remains at large, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

The crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of W. Travis St and NW 24th St. Investigators determined that a Nissan Sentra was traveling south on 24th Street when a Chevrolet Silverado, traveling west on W. Travis Street, ran a stop sign and collided with the Nissan.

As a result of the impact, a 23-year-old male passenger in the Nissan was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Both drivers involved in the crash fled the scene on foot. Officers later located and arrested the driver of the Silverado, a 27-year-old man, just a few blocks away. Authorities reported that he showed signs of intoxication and was transported to a hospital with minor injuries before being taken into custody.

The driver of the Nissan also fled the scene and has not been located. Authorities state that once apprehended, they will also face charges related to the collision and failure to remain at the scene.

This incident remains under investigation, and officials will release further details as they become available.

Our thoughts are with the family of the victim, and we extend our deepest condolences during this difficult time.

Drunk Driving and Hit-and-Run Accidents in Texas

Drunk driving and hit-and-run accidents continue to be serious issues in Texas. Crashes involving intoxicated drivers frequently result in severe injuries or fatalities, particularly when high speeds or stop sign violations are involved.

Texas law mandates that all drivers involved in an accident remain at the scene and render aid if possible. Fleeing a crash site, especially one involving a fatality, carries severe legal consequences, including felony charges.

Statewide traffic reports show that alcohol-related crashes account for a significant number of roadway fatalities each year. Law enforcement agencies continue to focus on deterrence efforts, including increased DUI checkpoints and stricter penalties for offenders.
