San Antonio, TX (January 14, 2025) – A tragic incident early Tuesday morning resulted in the death of a woman after a vehicle struck her during a police-related pursuit. A 19-year-old suspect, identified as Leo Pinero, now faces charges of murder and evading arrest, according to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD).
The incident began as SAPD covert detectives conducted a narcotics investigation on the South Side. Around 12:15 a.m., officers attempted to pull over a vehicle in the 900 block of Pyron Ave, driven by Pinero, who was suspected of possessing a large quantity of narcotics. Instead of stopping, Pinero fled at a high rate of speed.
While marked units refrained from pursuing the vehicle, SAPD’s Eagle helicopter tracked it from above. As Pinero sped toward Pleasanton Rd, he lost control of his vehicle, crashing into a guardrail and fatally striking a woman walking on the nearby sidewalk. Following the crash, Pinero attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by officers.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) later pronounced the woman deceased at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released.
We would like to extend our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased victim.
