Salt Lake City, UT (January 14, 2025) – Montreal Canadiens forward Emil Heineman was struck by a vehicle while walking near 200 East and 500 South in Salt Lake City on Monday afternoon, according to a report from the Salt Lake Police Department.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:55 p.m. as the Canadiens were in Salt Lake City preparing for a game against the Utah Hockey Club. Heineman, 23, sustained an upper-body injury in the crash. His agent, Marcus Isaksson, told Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet that Heineman may have a broken wrist and will be further evaluated by a specialist.
According to the police report, neither Heineman nor the individual who reported the incident remained at the scene when authorities arrived to investigate. Police later confirmed Heineman’s identity as an NHL player and stated that he had been treated by team medical staff following the collision.
Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis commented on the incident, saying, “I just know that he got hurt crossing the street yesterday. I don’t think it was at a high speed, but enough to cause some damage. So, it’s unfortunate.”
The Utah Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the crash. No additional details about the driver or specific circumstances have been released.
Our thoughts are with Emil Heineman as he recovers from this incident.
