The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that a 2024 Ford Econoline, driven by 63-year-old Tracy L. Baden of St. Louis, Missouri, was parked on the shoulder when a 2013 Subaru Outback, whose driver remains unidentified, slid into it. The impact caused the Subaru to slide sideways and collide with a 2024 Hyundai Elantra driven by 32-year-old Mikayla Countryman of Lansing. The Subaru was then pushed into a 2007 Lexus ES350 parked on the shoulder and driven by 22-year-old Alejandro Duewel of Shawnee.
The driver and passenger of the Subaru were transported to Salina Regional Health Center with injuries of unknown severity. Countryman sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital, while her 10-year-old passenger, Juliet Pierce, was treated for minor injuries. Baden suffered minor injuries but did not require hospitalization, and her passenger, Lawrence Baden, escaped unhurt. Duewel also did not sustain injuries.
