Saint Peter, MN (October 11, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on October 10 at approximately 3:50 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 169 and Washington Avenue South in Nicollet County. Emergency responders were alerted to the scene following a collision between two vehicles, resulting in a fatality.
According to preliminary reports, a 2018 Subaru Impreza, driven by 74-year-old Mary Stephanie Palen of Apple Valley, was traveling eastbound on Washington Avenue while a 2003 Peterbilt semi, driven by 34-year-old Timothy Allen Hauge of New Richland, was heading southbound on Highway 169. The two vehicles collided at the intersection.
Emergency responders from the St. Peter Police and Fire Departments, along with Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office, arrived promptly to manage the situation. The road conditions were reported as dry at the time of the accident, which may have contributed to the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Mary Stephanie Palen sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was not transported to a healthcare facility. She was wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident. Fortunately, Timothy Allen Hauge did not suffer any injuries and was also wearing his seat belt. Alcohol involvement is currently unknown for the Subaru driver, while it was confirmed that there was no alcohol involved in the semi.
