Sacramento, CA (September 25, 2024) – A significant fire broke out Wednesday morning at a single-story home located on La Field Drive near Spicer Drive, resulting in major damage and injuries to several individuals, including firefighters. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District reported that emergency crews were dispatched to the scene around 5:40 a.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames engulfing the property, which was noted to have hoarder conditions inside, indicating a substantial accumulation of items. Firefighters initiated a search of the premises, but during their efforts, one of the rooms ignited, leading to a flash that prompted a Mayday call. The firefighters quickly evacuated the home to ensure their safety. Two firefighters sustained minor burns and were treated for their injuries.
The fire was successfully extinguished by 6:13 a.m., according to Sac Metro Fire. At the time of the incident, three adults and one child were inside the house. Fortunately, all residents were evacuated, but three individuals were subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor smoke inhalation injuries.
Tragically, several dogs and cats were inside the home and remain unaccounted for following the incident. Fortunately, no other buildings in the vicinity were reported damaged. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by local authorities.
