Rural Jefferson, AR (February 17, 2025) – A fatal head-on collision on US Highway 65 South near Kile Rd resulted in the death of one person and left another injured.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. when a Nissan traveling south in the northbound lanes of the highway collided head-on with a northbound Chevrolet Tahoe near the Kile Rd intersection. Following the impact, the Nissan became fully engulfed in flames.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and confirmed that the driver of the Nissan did not survive the crash. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released. The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe, identified as 49-year-old Margert Thomas of Brookhaven, MS, sustained injuries and was transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Authorities have not provided further details on the circumstances that led to the wrong-way driving incident. Weather conditions at the time included rain, and the roadway was wet, which may have played a role in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
