Roxboro, NC (December 30, 2024) – A tragic crash earlier this month has claimed the life of 16-year-old Branden McCain, who succumbed to his injuries over the weekend. The collision occurred on December 29 at the intersection of South Main Street and Madison Boulevard following a high-speed police chase, according to the Roxboro Police Department.
Authorities reported that the incident began when 18-year-old Jamere Jones allegedly stole a 1999 Buick from a business on Leasburg Rd around 4 p.m. Police attempted to corner the vehicle in a parking lot, but Jones managed to escape, prompting a chase. During the pursuit, speeds reached 60 mph in a 20-mph zone before Jones reportedly ran a red light at the intersection, causing the Buick to collide with a passenger truck and two other vehicles.
The impact trapped Jones and two 16-year-old passengers inside the Buick. Five people, including Jones, were transported to the hospital for treatment. Jones sustained serious but stable injuries, while McCain was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition. Tragically, he passed away from his injuries over the weekend.
The Roxboro Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances of the chase and crash.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Branden McCain and all those affected by this devastating incident.
