The accident occurred at approximately 10:37 AM on Sunday and resulted in critical injuries for two of the vehicle’s occupants.
The juveniles were traveling northbound in a blue 2006 Pontiac G6 when the vehicle veered off the left shoulder of the roadway. The driver overcorrected, causing the car to swerve off the right shoulder and collide with an embankment. The impact resulted in serious injuries to the occupants.

The third juvenile suffered minor injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to a nearby medical facility. The current conditions of those injured have not yet been released.

The roadway was blocked for approximately two hours as emergency responders from the Power County Sheriff’s Office and Power County Emergency Medical Services assisted at the scene.
The Idaho State Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Juvenile Vehicle Accidents in Idaho
Accidents involving juvenile drivers and passengers, such as the crash on Idaho Highway 37 near Rockland, highlight the serious risks associated with underage drinking and driving. Alcohol impairment is a leading cause of fatal and serious injury crashes across the United States, and when combined with inexperience behind the wheel, the results can be catastrophic.
Single-vehicle accidents often occur due to factors such as impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding, or overcorrection when navigating road conditions. Overcorrecting after veering off the roadway, as seen in this incident, can cause vehicles to lose control, especially at higher speeds, leading to rollovers or collisions with fixed objects like embankments.
Injuries from such crashes can range from minor bruises to life-threatening trauma, including head injuries, spinal damage, and internal bleeding. In this case, the critical nature of the injuries necessitated air ambulance transportation, highlighting the severity of the crash.
The use of seatbelts is a critical factor in reducing the severity of injuries during vehicle accidents. While it is unclear whether seatbelts were used in this crash, statistics consistently show that seatbelt usage significantly decreases the risk of serious injury or death in crashes.
Families affected by juvenile vehicle accidents often face significant emotional and financial challenges, particularly when alcohol is involved. Beyond the immediate medical costs, there may be long-term rehabilitation needs, counseling for emotional trauma, and legal implications for those involved. Understanding legal rights and pursuing appropriate compensation can help alleviate some of these burdens.
Community education and prevention programs are essential in addressing the dangers of underage drinking and driving. Schools, local law enforcement, and community organizations in Idaho and across the country work tirelessly to raise awareness about the risks and consequences of impaired driving among young people.
