Rockford, IL (December 1, 2024) – The Rockford Fire Department responded to an apartment fire early Saturday morning on the 500 block of North Main St. Firefighters were dispatched shortly before 3:30 a.m. to find the fire alarm sounding and reports of a fire on the 12th floor.
Crews quickly ascended to the 12th floor, where they encountered smoke and flames originating from an apartment. Fortunately, no one was inside the unit at the time. However, one individual in the lobby was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. No other injuries were reported.
The fire caused an estimated $20,000 in property damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation as authorities work to determine how it began.
