Rochester, NY (February 24, 2025) – A 61-year-old woman was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene on Hudson Ave near Berlin St on Sunday night.
The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. as the woman was walking south and the driver, traveling north, hit her before leaving the scene. Emergency responders arrived quickly, and the victim was transported to Rochester General Hospital. Officials say she is expected to survive.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the vehicle involved to call 911.
This hit-and-run was one of several pedestrian and bicyclist-related incidents in Rochester over the weekend. Just hours earlier, another hit-and-run on Joseph Ave sent two people to the hospital, and on Friday night, a bicyclist was killed on Norton St in a crash involving a suspected drunk driver.
Our thoughts are with the injured woman, and we hope for her full recovery.
Hit-and-Run Accidents in New York
Hit-and-run accidents, like the one on Hudson Ave, are a serious concern in cities across New York. Pedestrians are particularly vulnerable in these incidents, often suffering severe injuries due to the impact. When drivers flee the scene, it can delay life-saving medical care and complicate the investigation process.
In New York, drivers involved in accidents are legally required to stop, render aid, and report the crash. Fleeing the scene is a criminal offense that carries significant penalties. Despite these laws, hit-and-run cases continue to occur, leaving victims and their families searching for justice.
Pedestrians can take safety precautions such as using designated crosswalks, staying visible at night, and being aware of traffic. However, drivers must also take responsibility by remaining attentive and yielding to pedestrians in accordance with state laws.
