Pedestrian Accidents in New York
Pedestrian accidents involving buses can result in serious consequences due to the size and weight of these vehicles. In New York, urban areas like Rochester experience frequent pedestrian traffic, which increases the risk of collisions, particularly during nighttime hours when visibility is reduced.
According to the New York State Department of Transportation, pedestrian crashes account for a significant percentage of urban accidents, with many incidents occurring near bus routes and major streets. Factors such as jaywalking, driver inattention, and insufficient lighting can all contribute to these unfortunate events.
Local authorities encourage pedestrians to use crosswalks and follow traffic signals to reduce risks. Likewise, drivers are urged to remain attentive, especially in areas with high pedestrian activity.
