Ripley County, IN (February 20, 2025) – A man lost his life following a head-on collision Wednesday evening in eastern Ripley County, according to Indiana State Police (ISP).
The crash occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m. in the 8000 block of East State Road 350. Officials reported that a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan was traveling westbound when, for unknown reasons, it crossed the centerline into the path of an eastbound 2007 GMC Yukon. The two vehicles collided nearly head-on in the eastbound lane of SR 350.
As a result of the impact, the driver of the Dodge, identified as 62-year-old George A. Frith of Milan, Indiana, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the GMC Yukon, a 31-year-old woman, along with an infant passenger, sustained minor injuries and were treated by medical personnel.
The crash prompted an approximately four-hour closure of SR 350 while ISP’s Versailles Post Crash Reconstruction Team and other officials conducted an investigation and cleared the roadway. The Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, Milan Police Department, Milan Fire Department, Aurora Fire Department, Moores Hill Fire Department, Ripley County EMS, and the Ripley County Coroner’s Office all assisted at the scene.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of George A. Frith during this difficult time, and we wish a full recovery for those injured.
Head-On Collisions in Indiana
Head-on crashes are among the most dangerous types of accidents, often resulting in severe injuries or fatalities due to the high-impact nature of the collision. Many of these accidents occur due to distracted driving, drowsiness, impaired driving, or loss of vehicle control.
According to the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI), head-on collisions represent a small percentage of total crashes but account for a high number of fatalities. Major roads like SR 350, with opposing lanes of traffic, pose additional risks when drivers drift out of their lanes.
Drivers can reduce the risk of head-on crashes by staying alert, avoiding distractions, obeying speed limits, and never driving while impaired or fatigued.
