Renton, WA (December 16, 2024) – A 48-year-old man from Woodinville is in critical condition following a head-on collision on Interstate 405 in Renton over the weekend.
According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the incident occurred when a 27-year-old man from Tacoma drove northbound in the southbound lanes of I-405, causing a head-on collision with the 48-year-old’s vehicle. A third car swerved to avoid the impact but was struck by the wrong-way vehicle as it rotated.
Emergency responders arrived promptly, and both drivers involved in the head-on collision were transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. Officials report that the 27-year-old is in satisfactory condition, while the 48-year-old remains in critical condition in the ICU. The driver of the third vehicle was uninjured.
The 27-year-old has been charged with vehicular assault as WSP continues its investigation into the crash. The roadway was blocked for nearly three hours while fire crews and police investigated and cleared the scene.
