Red River Parish, LA (October 8, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred early this Monday morning, October 7 on Louisiana Highway 1, resulting in the death of a 64-year-old man from Shreveport. At approximately 4:10 AM, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to the scene of the two-vehicle crash, which took place north of Yearwood Road.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a 2017 Hyundai SUV, driven by 26-year-old Christian West of Bossier City, was traveling south on Louisiana Highway 1. Simultaneously, a 2005 Ford pickup truck, driven by Melvin Henix, was heading north on the same highway. For reasons still under investigation, the Hyundai crossed the centerline and collided head-on with the Ford pickup.
Henix was properly restrained at the time of the crash but sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. West was also wearing his seatbelt and suffered severe injuries; he was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have stated that impairment is not suspected in this incident; however, standard toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and submitted for analysis.
