Start, LA (January 29, 2025) – A tragic head-on collision on U.S. Highway 80 near Tupelo Drive claimed the life of 32-year-old Brandy Cook of Rayville on Tuesday morning. Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to the crash shortly before 10:00 a.m.
According to the preliminary investigation, 22-year-old Jaylen Hall was driving eastbound on U.S. Highway 80 in a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu, while Cook was traveling westbound in a 2012 Toyota Prius. For reasons still under investigation, Hall veered left, crossed the centerline, and collided head-on with Cook’s vehicle in the westbound lane.
Despite being properly restrained, Cook sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Hall, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities do not suspect impairment, but routine toxicology samples were collected and will be analyzed as part of the ongoing investigation.
