Raymond, ME (October 30, 2024) – A tragic head-on collision occurred on Wednesday morning, resulting in the deaths of three individuals in Cumberland County. The accident took place around 11 a.m. on Egypt Road, near the Raymond-Gray town line.
According to Lt. Jim Estabrook of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, the crash involved two vehicles: a Nissan Frontier pickup truck and a Subaru Crosstrek. Reports indicate that there was one occupant in the pickup truck and two passengers in the Subaru, none of whom survived the incident.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the pickup truck was acting erratically prior to the collision. Evidence at the scene indicated that the truck crossed the center line, leading to the head-on crash. The investigation is ongoing as officials work to determine the exact circumstances that led to this tragic accident.
Lt. Estabrook described Egypt Road as curvy and difficult to navigate, highlighting the challenges drivers face in that area, which is located near the Morgan Meadow hiking trail.
Emergency responders worked at the scene for several hours, and Egypt Road was closed for approximately three hours to facilitate the investigation and cleanup. The roadway reopened shortly before 2:30 p.m.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigating agency and is collaborating with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to notify the families of the deceased.
