Rawlins, WY (December 19, 2024) – A tragic rollover crash on Interstate 80 claimed the life of a passenger and left the driver injured on Saturday morning. The accident occurred around 10:02 a.m. at milepost 242, approximately 30 miles east of Rawlins.

According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, a Ford F-150 was traveling westbound in the left lane when it drifted across the right lane onto the shoulder, striking a delineator post after crossing the rumble strip. The driver reportedly overcorrected to the left, causing the pickup to slide sideways across both lanes before rolling over.

The passenger, identified as 56-year-old Rocco Dorazio of Idaho, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash despite wearing a seatbelt. The driver, who also wore a seatbelt, survived the crash and sustained injuries. Their condition has not been disclosed.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including potential contributing factors.

Our hearts go out to the family of Rocco Dorazio, and we wish the injured driver a full and swift recovery.

Rollover Crashes in Wyoming

Rollover crashes, like the one on I-80, are particularly dangerous and often result in severe injuries or fatalities. High speeds, driver overcorrection, and roadway conditions are common contributing factors in such incidents. Wyoming’s long stretches of highway, like I-80, are especially prone to these types of crashes due to varying weather conditions and driver fatigue.

State and local agencies stress the importance of staying alert, maintaining control, and using seat belts to reduce the likelihood and severity of injuries in these crashes. Public safety campaigns continue to promote awareness of the risks associated with high-speed travel and overcorrection.

For those affected by rollover accidents, seeking medical care and understanding their legal rights is crucial to addressing medical expenses, insurance claims, and recovery needs.
