Rainy Lake, MN (November 3, 2024) – A traffic accident occurred on Highway 71, resulting in injuries to two individuals. The incident took place at approximately 6:37 p.m. when a Ford Fiesta was traveling southbound on Highway 71 and was preparing to turn eastbound onto County Road 22. As the Fiesta began its turn, it was struck by a northbound Ford F150, leading to both vehicles coming to rest on the northbound side of the highway.
Emergency responders, including Littlefork EMS and Fire and International Falls Ambulance, were dispatched to the scene to provide medical assistance. The road conditions were reported as dry at the time of the accident, which may have contributed to the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Both drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Rainy Lake Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment. The driver of the Ford F150, 18-year-old Levi Curtis Thydean, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, while the driver of the Ford Fiesta, 38-year-old Nicholas David Franko, was wearing his seatbelt. Fortunately, there was no indication of alcohol involvement for either driver.
