Ragley, LA (February 27, 2025) – A tragic single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 12 just west of U.S. 171 claimed the life of a DeRidder resident and left three others injured Tuesday afternoon.

According to Louisiana State Police Troop D, the crash occurred shortly after 4:00 p.m. when 43-year-old Kelly Williams was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban westbound on LA-12. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered off the roadway to the right and collided with a concrete pillar.

Williams, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Three juvenile passengers were also inside the vehicle; two suffered minor injuries while the third sustained moderate injuries. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the third child was wearing a seatbelt.

A toxicology sample was collected for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials have not released further details regarding potential contributing factors.

Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Kelly Williams during this difficult time. We also extend our best wishes for the full recovery of the injured children.

Road Departure Crashes and Safety in Louisiana

Single-vehicle crashes involving roadway departures are a major concern on Louisiana highways, particularly in rural areas where higher speeds and limited roadway barriers can contribute to severe accidents. Losing control of a vehicle, whether due to distraction, fatigue, or environmental conditions, can result in serious or fatal injuries, as seen in this tragic incident on LA-12.

Studies indicate that wearing a seatbelt significantly reduces the risk of fatal injuries in crashes. While Williams and two of the juveniles were properly restrained, the importance of ensuring that all passengers—especially children—are securely buckled cannot be overstated. Parents and guardians should regularly check seat belt fit and positioning to provide maximum protection.

If you or someone you love has been affected by a serious crash, seeking medical attention, legal guidance, and emotional support can be crucial steps in navigating the recovery process.
