Queens, NY (December 16, 2024) – A driver was arrested after striking a group of pedestrians with a BMW early Sunday morning on Northern Blvd near 80th St in Jackson Heights, Queens. The incident occurred around 2:00 AM and was the culmination of a chaotic series of events that spanned three neighborhoods.
The situation began in Astoria, where police initially stopped the white BMW at 31st Ave and 44th St for reportedly having fraudulent plates. Shortly after, the car was stopped again in East Elmhurst, but the driver attempted to flee. Authorities maintain that no high-speed chase occurred, though the driver displayed erratic behavior on the roads.
As the driver reached Northern Blvd, he struck three pedestrians crossing at 80th St. The victims were injured in the crash but managed to move to safety as police arrived at the scene. The driver, later identified as Fabrice Bayonne, 32, of Amityville, fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by law enforcement.
The pedestrians, a 23-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The man sustained a leg laceration, while the woman complained of back pain. Both were treated and are listed in stable condition.
