Princeton, LA (December 10, 2024) – A fatal vehicle crash occurred on Chalmette Loop near Creole Circle in Bossier Parish on the evening of December 9, 2024. The crash claimed the life of 35-year-old Maria Lopez of Shreveport.

According to a preliminary investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop G, Lopez was driving a 2012 Nissan SUV northbound on Chalmette Loop when, for reasons still under investigation, she lost control of the vehicle. The SUV exited the roadway and collided with a residence. Lopez, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A front-seat passenger, who was also unrestrained, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. A 15-year-old juvenile, unrestrained in the rear passenger seat, also suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The residence, which had a single occupant at the time of the crash, sustained no injuries.

Vehicle Accidents in Louisiana

This tragic accident highlights the dangers of driving without seatbelts, especially in single-vehicle crashes. Unrestrained occupants are significantly more likely to sustain severe or fatal injuries in the event of a collision. While investigations continue to determine the exact cause of the crash, this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of wearing seatbelts at all times, regardless of the type of road or the length of the trip.

Drivers and passengers are urged to always buckle up, as seatbelts are proven to reduce the risk of serious injuries or fatalities in crashes. Additionally, ensuring that all passengers, especially children, are properly restrained is critical for their safety.

For families and individuals affected by fatal accidents, understanding legal rights and exploring recovery options is essential. Survivors may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, emotional distress, and other damages. Consulting with legal professionals can provide support in navigating insurance claims and seeking justice during such a difficult time.
