Prince William County, VA (December 4, 2024) – A crash involving 11 vehicles sent four individuals to the hospital Monday morning in Woodbridge. The incident occurred around 8:15 a.m. near the intersection of Gordon Blvd and Riverview Ln. According to the Prince William County Police Department (PWCPD), the accident began when a Mercedes attempted a left turn onto Gordon Blvd and crossed in front of an oncoming Freightliner truck. The truck slammed into the Mercedes, causing the vehicle to rotate and strike two additional cars in the intersection.
The collision caused the truck driver to lose control, and the Freightliner continued down an embankment into the parking lot of the Moorings of Occoquan complex, where it struck more vehicles before crashing into a condominium building.
Four drivers, including the driver of the Mercedes, sustained serious injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment. Medics also evaluated a fifth driver on the scene who complained of pain but was not hospitalized. The driver of the Freightliner was not injured.
The Prince William County Police Department has indicated that the driver of the Mercedes did not have the right-of-way when they entered the intersection. Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
Our thoughts go to the victims as we hope for their recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Crashes in Virginia
Multi-vehicle accidents, like the one that took place in Woodbridge, are a serious concern in Virginia. In this case, the chain reaction crash involved a large tractor-trailer that contributed to multiple collisions, including the destruction of vehicles and a condominium building. These types of accidents are often the result of a combination of factors, including driver error, weather conditions, and roadway design.
In urban and suburban areas such as Woodbridge, where intersections can become congested, the risk of multi-vehicle accidents is elevated. Large trucks, such as the Freightliner involved in this crash, can cause even more extensive damage when they are involved in collisions. The lack of control experienced by the truck driver highlights the dangers of larger vehicles in high-traffic environments.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and residents of the area are urged to be cautious when traveling through busy intersections, particularly during rush hours. Drivers should always stay alert and be prepared to react quickly to changing conditions in high-traffic areas.
Local Accident Reports will provide updates as more details emerge from the ongoing investigation. If you or someone you know has been involved in a similar accident, it is important to seek professional legal advice to understand your rights and options.
