Port St. Lucie, FL (January 21, 2025) – A tragic wrong-way collision on Sunday evening left a 40-year-old woman dead and a 3-year-old child seriously injured. The crash occurred at approximately 7:05 p.m. near the intersection of NW St. James Drive and Charleston Oaks Drive, according to the Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD).
Investigators determined that a Kia Soul, driven by 43-year-old Alston Creary, was traveling south in the northbound lanes of NW St. James Drive when it collided head-on with a northbound Toyota Camry, driven by 37-year-old Micardo Fortune. The impact of the collision caused significant damage to both vehicles.
Beatrice Saturne, a 40-year-old passenger seated in the back middle seat of the Toyota, was transported to Lawnwood Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries. Authorities confirmed that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Saturne’s 3-year-old child, Anne Jean Saturne, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach. The child is reported to be in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries as of late Monday afternoon.
The driver of the Kia Soul, Alston Creary, was also transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officials have stated that neither speed nor impairment appears to have been factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are determining whether any charges will be filed.
