Pope Co, AR (November 27, 2024) – Emergency responders were called to the scene of a fatal accident on westbound Interstate 40 near Mile Marker 80.5 at approximately 8:01 PM. A 2002 Ford traveling westbound lost control when its trailer began to fishtail after merging into the inside lane. The vehicle struck the south concrete bridge barrier and flipped multiple times before coming to rest on its top against the north concrete bridge barrier. Tragically, the driver of the vehicle, 59-year-old Steven Baxter from Muskogee, OK, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Two other occupants in the vehicle, 41-year-old Randy Harris and 38-year-old Paul Sekulich, both from Muskogee, OK, were injured and transported to Saint Mary’s Regional ER.
