Plattsmouth, NE (February 20, 2025) – Emergency responders were called to a serious three-vehicle collision at the intersection of 120th Street and Highway 66 on Wednesday afternoon.
According to reports, the crash occurred at approximately 4:06 p.m. and initially involved a two-vehicle head-on impact. A third vehicle was later confirmed to have been involved after one car was rear-ended and pushed into oncoming traffic.
Plattsmouth Fire & Rescue, along with Louisville Fire & Rescue, arrived on the scene, where initial reports suggested a person was trapped inside a vehicle. However, further assessment determined no one was pinned, and the request for LifeNet was canceled.
Emergency medical teams transported multiple injured individuals to Bergan Mercy Medical Center. A man in his 20s, who was rear-ended and subsequently forced into a head-on crash, was taken to the hospital with neck and chest pain from the impact of the seat belt. Another victim, a man in his 60s, sustained a leg laceration, forehead cut, and right shoulder pain but was able to walk away from the crash.
Authorities partially reopened the roadway around 5:09 p.m. as they continued investigating the cause of the accident.
Our thoughts are with those injured, and we hope for their full recovery.
Head-On Collisions in Nebraska
Head-on collisions are among the most dangerous types of crashes, often resulting in serious or fatal injuries due to the force of impact. High-speed crashes, like the one reported on Highway 66, frequently lead to severe trauma, including spinal injuries, fractures, and internal bleeding.
Common causes of head-on collisions include distracted driving, improper lane changes, failure to yield, and impaired driving. In multi-vehicle crashes, determining fault can be complex, as one vehicle’s movement can cause chain-reaction collisions, as seen in this incident.
Victims of these crashes often face significant medical expenses, lost wages, and emotional distress. Investigators will work to determine whether speeding, driver negligence, or other roadway conditions contributed to Wednesday’s accident in Plattsmouth.
