Platte County, MO (January 27, 2025) – A multi-vehicle collision occurred on Saturday night along I-29 Northbound at the 19-mile marker, leaving one person injured and three vehicles damaged. The crash happened at approximately 9:45 PM and prompted a response from local law enforcement and emergency services.

According to preliminary reports, the accident began when the driver of a 2023 Hyundai Elantra fell asleep at the wheel and struck the rear towed unit of a 2022 Volvo tractor-trailer. Shortly after, a 2004 Ford Ranger collided with the rear of the Hyundai. Both the Hyundai and Ford sustained total damage and were towed from the scene by Express Tow, while the tractor-trailer sustained minor damage and was driven away.

Emergency responders transported a 25-year-old female occupant of the Hyundai, who sustained injuries, to North Kansas City Hospital for treatment. The drivers of the vehicles were reported to have used proper safety restraints and were unharmed in the crash.

Assistance at the scene was provided by Lieutenant A. J. Bell, Trooper M. Gallo Mejia, and the Platte County Sheriff’s Department. The crash remains under investigation.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim, and we hope for a full and swift recovery.

Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Missouri

Highways like I-29 are often the site of multi-vehicle accidents due to heavy traffic flow and the high speeds of vehicles in transit. Fatigue, as in this case, is a common contributing factor, along with distracted driving and tailgating.

Victims of multi-vehicle accidents often face complicated legal and insurance processes due to the number of parties involved. Missouri law allows injured individuals to pursue compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages from at-fault drivers or through their own insurance coverage.

To prevent accidents, drivers should avoid drowsy driving, maintain safe following distances, and remain attentive at all times. Defensive driving can help reduce the risks of serious collisions.
