Plaquemine, LA (December 16, 2024) – A tragic crash on LA 1148 in Iberville Parish claimed the life of 36-year-old Jonathan Harris of Plaquemine on December 13, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m. Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to the scene of the accident, which involved a bicyclist and a vehicle.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Harris and another passenger were riding a bicycle westbound on LA 1148 when a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, also traveling west, struck the rear of the bicycle. For reasons still under investigation, the collision occurred in the westbound lane, and Harris was thrown from the bicycle.
Harris sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger on the bicycle also suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the Jeep, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was uninjured.
Routine toxicology samples were taken from the driver of the Jeep as part of the ongoing investigation. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and authorities are working to determine the factors that contributed to the incident.
