Plainfield, NY (October 16, 2024) – A serious two-car accident occurred on Tuesday morning involving a tractor-trailer and an SUV on US Route 20 in the town of Plainfield. New York State Police responded to the crash at approximately 9:20 a.m. on October 15.
Preliminary investigations revealed that an SUV, driven by a 56-year-old female from Sherburne, was traveling eastbound on US Route 20 when it unexpectedly entered the westbound lane. The SUV made contact with the side of a tractor-trailer operated by a 70-year-old male from Westerlo. Despite the truck driver’s efforts to avoid the collision, the SUV sideswiped the tractor-trailer, impacting the entire side of the trailer it was carrying.
Following the collision, the tractor-trailer lost control and subsequently struck a utility pole. Fortunately, the driver of the tractor-trailer was unharmed in the incident.
The driver of the SUV was ejected from her vehicle but was conscious when first responders arrived at the scene. She was quickly transported to Wynn Hospital in Utica, where she is being treated for serious injuries.
In a surprising turn of events, a cat was discovered in a carrier inside the SUV. The cat was taken to the SPCA in Cooperstown, although its condition remains unknown at this time.
Due to low-hanging wires from the damaged utility pole, US Route 20 was closed for several hours following the accident. The road was reopened to traffic at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday night.
