Pittsfield Twp, MI (March 6, 2025) – A 42-year-old Washtenaw County man was fatally struck by a vehicle Wednesday evening at the intersection of Carpenter Rd and Packard Rd, according to local authorities.

Emergency personnel responded to the crash around 7:30 p.m. Investigators reported that the driver of a Ford Escape was traveling south on Carpenter Rd when the pedestrian entered the roadway. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials stated that the driver had a green light at the time of the crash and noted that rainy conditions and wet roadways may have played a role. The Pittsfield Township Police Crash Investigation Unit is continuing to investigate and is asking anyone with information to contact the department.

Our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones during this difficult time.

Pedestrian Accidents in Michigan

Pedestrian fatalities remain a serious concern in Michigan, particularly at busy intersections like Carpenter Rd and Packard Rd. Poor weather conditions, reduced visibility, and driver or pedestrian inattention can all contribute to these tragic incidents.

Drivers are urged to remain cautious in low-visibility conditions, while pedestrians should use designated crosswalks and be aware of approaching vehicles. Even when drivers have the right of way, wet roads can make it harder to stop in time to avoid a collision.
