Phoenix, AZ (October 8, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred early Monday morning at a west Phoenix transit facility, resulting in the death of a man identified as 59-year-old George Meletis. Authorities reported that the incident took place near the intersection of 79th Avenue and Van Buren Street around 5 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Meletis on the ground with obvious signs of injuries. Emergency responders from the Phoenix Fire Department provided immediate medical assistance; however, Meletis was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses indicated that Meletis had been struck by a shuttle bus. Authorities later confirmed that two other men, who were also employees of the city’s transit provider, were found inside the shuttle bus with non-life-threatening injuries.
