Phoenix, AZ (January 3, 2025) – A tragic accident in south Phoenix claimed the life of a bicyclist on Wednesday night. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of 53rd Ave and Baseline Rd, according to Phoenix police.
Authorities reported that the bicyclist, 25-year-old Ajuamungu Chubaka, was struck by an eastbound car while crossing Baseline Rd. Emergency responders arrived on the scene and transported Chubaka to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. Early reports indicate that impairment was not a factor in the crash. Investigators are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the collision to determine any additional contributing factors.
