Phillipsburg, NJ (January 7, 2025) – A tragic accident occurred on New Year’s Day when a 67-year-old pedestrian, Dominguez Cruz of Elizabeth, NJ, was struck and killed near the 600 block of Memorial Parkway, according to Phillipsburg police. The incident took place at approximately 6:45 p.m. outside Norton’s Cork N’ Bottle near Pickford Avenue.
Police reports indicate that Cruz was crossing Memorial Parkway in a non-designated crossing area when a 53-year-old woman driving eastbound struck him. The driver told authorities she did not see Cruz due to the dark clothing he was wearing and a non-functioning streetlight in the area. Cruz was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital-Warren, where he was pronounced dead at 7:22 p.m.
No charges have been filed against the driver, according to police, as the accident remains under investigation by Phillipsburg police and the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Dominguez Cruz during this difficult time.
