Pettis County, MO (December 28, 2024) – A tragic single-vehicle crash occurred Saturday morning on Smasal Rd, east of Welliver Rd, claiming the life of a 17-year-old driver and injuring an 18-year-old passenger.
According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened at approximately 10:55 a.m. when a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado traveling eastbound left the roadway and struck a creek embankment head-on. The impact resulted in total damage to the vehicle, which was later towed from the scene by Don’s Towing.
The 17-year-old male driver from Sedalia, MO, was pronounced deceased at the scene at 10:30 a.m. by PCAD paramedic Charisse Bauer. The driver was not wearing a safety device at the time of the crash. His body was released to Heckart Funeral Home.
An 18-year-old male passenger, also from Sedalia, MO, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Bothwell Regional Hospital by PCAD for treatment. He, too, was not wearing a safety device. The incident marks Troop A’s 73rd fatal crash and the 81st fatality of the year. Authorities, including Troopers A.S. Craig, R.V. McCormick, M.G.
