Perkins, OK (September 25, 2024) – A serious accident occurred Wednesday morning, September 25 involving a prison transport bus on State Highway 33, approximately two and a half miles east of Perkins. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported that dense fog was a contributing factor to the crash.
According to OHP, the driver of a pickup truck attempted to pass another vehicle while navigating through the fog. Unfortunately, the driver was unable to see the prison transport bus ahead, resulting in a collision with the front of the bus. The impact caused the bus to veer off the road and into a ravine.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to assess the situation. The bus was carrying a total of 37 inmates at the time of the accident. Ten individuals were taken to nearby hospitals for medical evaluation and treatment, while the remaining 27 inmates were returned to the prison in Cushing without reported injuries.
The incident highlights the dangers of driving in low-visibility conditions, such as dense fog. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident, especially those who were injured.
