Peoria County, IL (January 17, 2025) – A tragic three-vehicle crash near Lancaster and Hanna City-Glasford Roads in Peoria County left one person dead and four others injured on Thursday evening. The crash occurred around 5:19 p.m. in Timber Township, between Glasford and Lake Camelot.

According to Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins, the driver of a southbound Ford van rear-ended a BMW several times before attempting to pass it. During the passing maneuver, the van collided head-on with a northbound GMC SUV. The van rolled over multiple times, caught fire, and ultimately resulted in the death of the driver, who was the sole occupant.

Logan-Trivoli Fire Chief David Tuttle reported that fire crews arrived to find one of the vehicles engulfed in flames. Four other individuals were extricated from the wreckage and transported to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center for treatment. One of the injured was airlifted to the hospital by a medical evacuation helicopter.

The occupants of the BMW, a 76-year-old man and a 77-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries. The GMC SUV’s occupants, a 65-year-old man, and a 13-year-old, suffered serious injuries and were among those hospitalized.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.

Multi-Vehicle Crashes in Illinois

Three-vehicle collisions, especially those involving high speeds and fire, often result in severe injuries or fatalities. Roads like Hanna City-Glasford Rd, with mixed residential and rural traffic, can present unique hazards, including rear-end and head-on collisions.

Victims of serious crashes should prioritize immediate medical attention and document the accident scene where possible. Understanding legal rights is also critical for addressing medical expenses, property damage, and emotional trauma caused by such incidents.

Illinois law allows victims and their families to seek compensation for losses, including medical expenses, lost wages, and wrongful death. Consulting experienced legal professionals can help victims navigate the claims process and secure the support they need for recovery.
