Pennsbury, PA (November 9, 2024) – A devastating house fire broke out in the unit block of Jacobs Way on Saturday night, resulting in the rescue of an entrapped victim and one firefighter injury. The fire was first reported at 8:52 p.m., with flames visible from the front bedroom of the large single-family home.
By 8:57 p.m., MICU 25-2 arrived on the scene to find flames showing from the “C” side of the home and smoke visible from the roof. Crews confirmed entrapment on the second floor and immediately began interior operations to locate and extricate the victim.
At 9:07 p.m., the victim was found and successfully removed from the second floor by 9:10 p.m. Despite the quick rescue, the fire had spread to the attic, and the garage roof collapsed shortly thereafter, leading to a partial structural collapse in the rear of the home by 9:19 p.m.
Fire Operations and Challenges
Crews worked under challenging conditions, including a lack of hydrants in the area, requiring a Tanker Task Force to shuttle water to the scene. Interior crews initially battled heavy fire with multiple lines on the second floor but were forced to evacuate the building due to worsening conditions and structural instability.
The fire transitioned to a defensive attack, with master streams deployed and a collapse zone established. Crews battled flare-ups and ensured ember control in the wooded areas surrounding the home to prevent additional fires. A firefighter sustained injuries during operations and was transported for medical evaluation.
By 10:55 p.m., the fire was declared under control.
The fire drew a large response from Longwood, Kennett Square, Po-Mar-Lin, Concordville, Good Will, and other supporting units. Despite the challenges, all personnel were accounted for, and the victim was transported for medical care. The extent of the victim’s and firefighter’s injuries has not yet been disclosed.
Residential fires like the one on Jacobs Way highlight the dangers of fast-spreading flames and the challenges posed by limited water supply and structural collapses. Ensuring proper emergency preparedness and fire safety measures in homes can reduce risks and improve outcomes in these critical situations.
