Penn Township, PA (January 5, 2024) – A tragic head-on collision on January 3 resulted in the death of a 2-year-old girl and injuries to two others on Bernville Rd in Berks County. The crash occurred at approximately 5:00 AM in the 5900 block of the roadway.

Preliminary reports indicate that a van, driven by a 55-year-old man from Auburn, PA, was traveling south when it crossed the solid double-yellow line, colliding head-on with an SUV. The SUV was driven by a 27-year-old woman from Reading, with the 2-year-old girl as a passenger.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, working to extricate the van driver and provide immediate medical attention to all parties involved. All three individuals were transported to Reading Hospital. Despite efforts to save her, the 2-year-old girl was tragically pronounced dead at the hospital. The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the young girl during this devastating time. We also extend our thoughts to the other individuals injured in this heartbreaking accident.

Head-On Collisions in Pennsylvania

Head-on collisions are among the most dangerous types of crashes, often resulting in severe injuries or fatalities. These accidents frequently occur when a driver crosses the centerline or engages in reckless behaviors such as impaired driving. In Pennsylvania, thousands of such crashes are reported annually, with tragic consequences for many families.

The area around Bernville Rd is a well-traveled route, and drivers must remain alert and adhere to traffic regulations to ensure safety. The double-yellow line serves as a clear indicator to prevent crossing into oncoming traffic. Impaired driving, however, continues to be a significant issue on Pennsylvania roads, contributing to a substantial number of preventable accidents.

Victims of head-on collisions and their families often face immense physical, emotional, and financial burdens. Pursuing legal action against negligent parties can help secure compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages.
