Pemiscot, MO (December 6, 2024) – At 7:30 AM on Friday, a fatal head-on collision occurred on Route U, approximately five miles west of Caruthersville. A 2018 Peterbilt truck, driven by a 65-year-old male from Paragould, AR, was traveling westbound when it collided head-on with a 2017 Nissan Sentra traveling eastbound. The crash caused significant damage to both vehicles, with the Nissan Sentra being towed by Sullivan’s Wrecker and the Peterbilt being towed by Rudi’s Towing.
The driver of the Nissan Sentra, a 79-year-old female from Caruthersville, MO, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. She sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Pemiscot County Coroner Brian Irions at 8:14 AM. The driver of the Peterbilt truck was uninjured, but the crash has been classified as a fatality for Troop E, marking the 67th fatality in the area for 2024.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol, assisted by SGT D.L. DeJournett, TPR J.E. Conway, TPR J.P. Lewis, SGT P.G. Sarakas, CVO J.L. Ash, and the Major Crash Investigation Unit Team #4, is continuing its investigation into the cause of the crash.
