Pemiscot County, MO (November 10, 2024) – A two-vehicle collision occurred on Interstate 55 at the Highway U overpass on Saturday afternoon, resulting in moderate injuries to one individual. The crash was reported at approximately 2:15 PM and involved damage to state property.

According to authorities, the crash occurred when a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500, traveling northbound, failed to yield to a westbound 2015 Nissan Altima. The Altima struck the guardrail after the collision, resulting in significant damage to the vehicle and the state-owned guardrail.

The driver of the Nissan Altima, a 57-year-old male from Blytheville, AR, sustained moderate injuries despite wearing a safety device. He was transported by EMS to Pemiscot Memorial Hospital for medical treatment. The driver of the Dodge Ram, a 60-year-old male from Oxly, MO, was uninjured and drove his vehicle from the scene.

The Nissan Altima was towed from the scene by A1 Wrecker, while authorities initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

We extend our thoughts to the injured individual and wish for their swift recovery.

Vehicle Accidents and Yielding Laws in Missouri

Failing to yield is a common factor in motor vehicle accidents across Missouri, particularly at busy highway intersections and overpasses like the I-55 and Highway U location. State laws emphasize the importance of yielding the right-of-way to prevent collisions and protect lives.

Drivers are urged to approach intersections and merges with caution, prioritize safety over haste, and remain vigilant of traffic conditions. Adhering to these precautions can significantly reduce the likelihood of accidents.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a collision, understanding your legal rights and accessing appropriate resources is crucial for recovery.
