Pembroke, NC (November 27, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on Old Main Rd in Pembroke, North Carolina, at approximately 5:44 PM on November 26, when a cyclist was struck and killed. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP), the cyclist, identified as Gerry Lee Depagter of Pembroke, was traveling west on the road along with two other vehicles. The cyclist, who was not wearing reflective clothing or using lights on the bicycle, was struck by the first vehicle, which was unable to see them in time. After the initial impact, a second vehicle was unable to avoid the cyclist and also collided with them.
Despite the efforts of the drivers to pull over, the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Both drivers were unharmed in the crash, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
