Pelham, AL (January 13, 2025) – A tragic car crash on I-65 northbound near mile marker 245 in Pelham claimed the lives of two individuals and critically injured another, according to Shelby County Coroner Lina Evans and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA). The crash occurred on Saturday evening, January 12, at approximately 8:26 PM during a police pursuit.
Authorities reported that 22-year-old Tyrek Howard, of Helena, was driving a vehicle struck by another car. Howard’s vehicle veered off the roadway and collided with several trees. He was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. Officials confirmed that Howard was not wearing a seatbelt.
The passenger in Howard’s car, 21-year-old Jazmine A. Davis, of Montevallo, sustained critical injuries and was transported to UAB Hospital for treatment. Her condition remains undisclosed.
The driver of the other vehicle, 21-year-old Elias Trejo Andino, of Homewood, was also ejected from his car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials stated that Andino was not wearing a seatbelt and was attempting to elude officers from the Alabaster Police Department, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, and ALEA troopers when the collision occurred.
