Pecos County, TX (November 26, 2024) – A deadly two-vehicle crash occurred early Monday morning near FM 1776 in Pecos County, resulting in the death of one individual. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) responded to the scene at 6:15 AM, where they found a 2022 BMW 330 and a 1998 Ford F-150 involved in the collision. According to Sergeant Steven Blanco, the BMW, driven by 37-year-old Gilbert Sanchez with 70-year-old Michael Sanchez as a passenger, was traveling westbound on the IH-10 Frontage Road when it approached the intersection of FM 1776.

The Ford F-150, driven by 23-year-old Kevin Rojas-Maynez, was traveling southbound. As the BMW attempted to make a maneuver at the intersection, it failed to yield the right of way to the F-150, resulting in a collision between the two vehicles. Tragically, Gilbert Sanchez was pronounced dead at the scene. Fortunately, all individuals involved were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is currently investigating the incident, and no further information has been released. Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time.

Fatal Accidents in Texas

Fatal accidents, such as the one on FM 1776 near IH-10 Frontage Rd, serve as a sobering reminder of the risks drivers face, especially when traffic laws are not followed. The failure to yield the right of way, as in this case, can have devastating consequences. With the collision between a smaller vehicle and a larger truck like the Ford F-150, the outcome is often severe, as was tragically the case here.

In rural areas like Pecos County, intersections like FM 1776 and the IH-10 Frontage Road can be particularly hazardous due to the mix of high-speed traffic and limited visibility. While the investigation into this crash is ongoing, this incident underscores the importance of following all traffic laws, especially in situations where vehicles are merging or turning at intersections.

Local authorities will continue their investigation, and residents are advised to be cautious around active crash sites. Drivers in the area should expect potential delays and detours as cleanup and investigation efforts continue.
