Payne County, OK (January 16, 2025) – A devastating multi-vehicle collision on State Highway 33 near Perkins resulted in two fatalities and one critical injury on Wednesday evening. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) responded to the scene to provide aid and begin an investigation.
According to reports, 19-year-old Kiowa L. Tate was driving a Nissan Juke eastbound on Highway 33 when the vehicle crossed the center line. The Nissan collided with the back end of a Volvo truck driven by 60-year-old Lawrence J. Hardeman Jr. Tate’s vehicle then struck a third vehicle driven by 36-year-old Tuseef A. Cheema.
Emergency responders pronounced Tate and Cheema deceased at the scene. Grant W. Burget, a 20-year-old passenger in Tate’s vehicle, sustained critical injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for urgent care. Hardeman was unharmed and released at the scene.
The cause of the collision is under investigation as authorities work to determine what led to the tragic event.
